BLOCKWORKS
==========

A voxel action-RPG. Explore, fight, and build your own weapons, armour and
buildings from scratch.

GETTING STARTED
---------------

1. Unzip this folder anywhere you like (Desktop is fine).
2. Run Blockworks.exe.

That's it - there's nothing to install. Windows may show a blue
"Windows protected your PC" box the first time, because the game isn't
code-signed. Click "More info", then "Run anyway".

Keep the whole folder together. Blockworks.exe needs the Assets folder and
glfw3.dll sitting next to it.

CONTROLS
--------

  WASD .............. move
  Mouse ............. look
  Shift ............. sprint
  Space ............. jump
  Left click ........ attack
Hold ALT .......... free-look (swing the camera around without turning)
  E ................. open / close a door you're looking at
  1-6 / scroll ...... hotbar
  Tab ............... inventory
M ................. the world map (drag to turn it, scroll to zoom out)
G ................. the Gamemaker's Portal (this is the good bit)
  Esc ............... pause / save

RANGED WEAPONS (a bow and a musket wait in the Portal library, or forge your own -
and a musket whose barrel fills under HALF its zone comes out a PISTOL, with
its own one-handed carry, aim and quicker reload)
Hold right click .. aim (the camera leans in over your shoulder)
Left click ........ fire, while aiming - the bow wants arrows in your bag
  R ................. reload a gun (musket 2s, pistol 1.75s; one lead ball)
Ctrl-click ........ split a stack of arrows or balls in the bag

THE SPEAR (forge one - it took the mace's place)
It swings like any weapon, but hold right click and it cocks to THROW:
a dotted arc shows exactly where it will land, left click lets it fly.
A thrown spear is GONE from your hand until you walk up and press E
to pull it out of whatever it hit. Dropping one from the bag is just
dropping it - only a throw plants it.

THE FORGES
----------

Press G to open the Gamemaker's Portal. Three forges live in there:

THE FORGE Build a weapon block by block on a flat grid, three layers
deep. Materials have real weight and damage, so a steel head
on a wood handle behaves differently to a solid iron one.

ARMOUR Build helmets, chest, legs and boots in 3D. The piece is
built on shells wrapped around the body part - drag to
rotate, left-click a green square to add a block, right-click
a block to remove it. What you build is what you wear.

  BUILDINGS Design a whole building.

                  1. Click two corners to paint a rectangle of foundation.
                     Any shape works - an L, a T, a courtyard. Repeat to
                     add more rectangles.
                  2. CONFIRM FOUNDATION. The walls go up fully built.
                  3. Carve it: right-click a wall block to cut a door or
window, left-click to fill one back in. Pick a material
                     on the left first.
                  4. Optionally ADD SECOND FLOOR, paint where the upstairs
floor sits, then PLACE STAIRS anywhere inside.
                  5. SAVE DESIGN.

The roof draws itself over whatever plan you make, valleys
and all - you can't edit it, and it can't come out wrong.

Everything you forge is saved into the content folder next to the game, so
your designs survive between sessions. You can send someone a design by
sending them the matching file out of content\buildings or content\items.

SAVING
------

Esc -> Save. Saves live in content\saves. The world itself isn't stored -
it's rebuilt from the seed number, so a save file stays tiny.

IF IT WON'T START
-----------------

The game writes crash.log next to Blockworks.exe when something goes wrong.
Send that file over and it'll say exactly what happened.
